Time to Upgrade Your at Home Workout Equipment?
Dec 1, 2020
Winter is upon us… Thanks to so many of you for working out with me virtually! I know it is not the same as in person classes, but our at home workouts are beneficial in their own right: maximizing your time, strength gains + recovery.
To date, we have mostly used dumbbells, household items + bodyweight to complete exercises for our sessions. Dumbbells are amazingly effective + they are all you NEED for my workouts. But – varying workout equipment will enhance your experience and keep your body from plateauing, so you continue to get stronger after each session.
In the coming weeks, I will begin utilizing the equipment listed below on a limited basis. Do you need to buy each of these items? NO, definitely not... I will always plan for a dumbbell or body weight version of each exercise I include in workouts. But, if you are looking to upgrade your experience, here is what I recommend adding to your home gym this winter…
Kettlebells: I love working with Kettlebells… They are great for explosive KB Swings + squats, lunges, deadlifts + good mornings. Here is an inexpensive version from Amazon: I use 15/20 pound Kettlebells.
Resistance Bands: These can be used to complete stand-alone exercises (squats, lunges + seated leg work) or to intensify many weighted dumbbell exercises like bicep curls + chest presses. If you traveled to Arizona with me last fall for my retreat, you already have a band, but you may want to purchase THIS SET so you can vary your tension options. Lighter bands may not challenge your legs enough for squats + lunges; using heavy bands for upper body exercises can sometimes lead to injury.
Bench: Adding elevation to our workouts is an effective way to vary strength training + cardio exercises. This is a basic bench – it can be used for squats + lunges + can elevate burpees or push-ups. You may be able to achieve fuller range of motion when using a bench for chest work + sitting upon it for upper body exercises provides an increased stabilization stabilization challenge throughout your torso. I just purchased this combo bench on Amazon – the height + position of the bench are adjustable + it includes notches to use for tubing exercises . Whichever bench you choose – be sure you can stand on top of it (box jumps, here we come!).
Decide if it’s time to make a change in the equipment you use during our workouts. Send any questions my way + note any equipment similar to my links will work great!
